Imagine tens of thousands of shipping containers arriving daily at ports across the Asia-Pacific region. The challenge of identifying potentially risky shipments within tight timeframes isn't just a customs concern—it's a critical factor in international trade security and efficiency. From June 20-23, 2016, the World Customs Organization (WCO) addressed this challenge through a regional workshop on risk assessment and Advance Cargo Information (ACI) selectivity at its Regional Training Center in Kashiwa, Japan.
Organized in collaboration with Japan Customs and the Regional Office for Capacity Building in Asia-Pacific (ROCB A/P), with sponsorship from the Customs Cooperation Fund of Japan (CCF), the workshop brought together 29 representatives from 26 customs administrations across the region. Opening remarks by Mr. Hiroshi Kishimoto, Deputy Director General of Japan Customs' Tariff Bureau, along with representatives from WCO and ROCB A/P, emphasized the crucial role of advance information in risk assessment.
