After more than four decades of refinement, the Quest for Quality Awards have become an essential benchmark for measuring customer satisfaction and operational excellence in the transportation and logistics industry.

The Quest for Quality Awards have earned their reputation through rigorous evaluation criteria and impartial selection processes, establishing unparalleled authority and credibility within the industry. Only those companies genuinely committed to customer-centric service and continuous improvement can stand out in this competitive field to claim this highest honor.

The awards' uniqueness lies in their foundation on authentic feedback from logistics service purchasers. Qualified readers of Logistics Management magazine rigorously evaluate carriers, third-party logistics (3PL) providers, and U.S. port operators, making this the industry's most distinctive customer satisfaction survey.

Evaluation Framework: Comprehensive Assessment Dimensions

To ensure fairness and comprehensiveness, Logistics Management readers evaluate companies across various modes and service areas, identifying leaders in categories including motor carriers, rail and intermodal services, ocean carriers, air carriers, freight forwarders, third-party/contract logistics providers, and ports.

From January through May this year, Logistics Management partnered with Peerless Research Group (PRG) to survey qualified logistics and transportation service purchasers. The research collected over 3,017 responses. To ensure winner representation, companies must receive at least 5% of category votes to qualify as "winners." This comprehensive evaluation provides both a clear view of category leaders and an extensive list of above-average performers.

Service providers are evaluated against these five critical criteria:

  • Value: The balance between service quality and cost control to maximize customer value.

For 3PL providers, evaluation focuses on different metrics:

This year's evaluation further refined 3PL assessments by dividing providers into two categories—transportation management and value-added warehousing services—with expertise from leading market analysis firm Armstrong & Associates.

Weighted Scoring: Ensuring Impartial Results

The Quest for Quality Awards employ weighted metrics reflecting readers' priorities. Annually, readers rank category attributes on a five-point scale (5=highest value). PRG researchers use these rankings to create weighted category scores.

On-time performance consistently ranks highest across carrier categories (4.77-4.13 this year), followed by value. Readers then score current providers on five core attributes (1=poor, 3=excellent). Weighted scores are calculated by multiplying each attribute's average score by its priority ranking, then summing all five weighted scores.

Companies surpassing their category's average total weighted score qualify as winners, provided they receive responses from at least 5% of the category's total respondents.
