Xiaomi Defends SU7 Braking Performance After 200 Kmh Test

The claim of Xiaomi SU7's "instantaneous braking from 200km/h" has sparked controversy. The official response clarifies that this statement was made within a specific context, showcasing the performance of carbon-ceramic brakes, and not a literal zero-time braking. They emphasized that the statement was not meant to be taken literally and offered to arrange another real-world test if necessary. This action aims to eliminate public misunderstanding and demonstrate confidence in the product's performance.
Xiaomi Defends SU7 Braking Performance After 200 Kmh Test

The claim that Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra electric sedan could achieve an "instant stop from 200 km/h" has sparked widespread debate. In response to public inquiries, Xiaomi Automotive issued an official clarification in its latest Q&A session, offering to conduct another live test if necessary.

The company emphasized that the phrase "instant stop" was used within a specific context. It originated from a performance demonstration video of the SU7 Ultra’s carbon-ceramic braking system, filmed on a test track at Xiaomi’s factory. The footage showed the vehicle accelerating beyond 200 km/h before executing maximum braking, eventually coming to a controlled halt. Xiaomi has since released the raw video for public review through official channels.

Regarding the "instant stop" terminology, Xiaomi urged a rational interpretation. The actual braking process aligns with engineering expectations for high-performance electric vehicles and does not imply zero-duration deceleration. Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder, previously noted during a livestream that the phrasing served as a figurative analogy to illustrate the car’s braking capabilities more vividly.

This clarification aims to address misconceptions about the braking demonstration. Xiaomi’s willingness to potentially reconduct the test underscores confidence in its product and responsiveness to consumer concerns. Whether a public retest will occur—and its results—remains to be seen.
