As the world grapples with unprecedented challenges, China has articulated a clear vision for international cooperation: steadfast support for the United Nations, unwavering adherence to multilateralism, and collective efforts toward peace and prosperity.
Dai Bing, China’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, delivered a resolute statement during the annual briefing on the UN Secretary-General’s priorities, emphasizing China’s commitment to upholding the UN-centered international system and advancing the vision of a shared future for humanity.
Defending the UN’s Central Role
Against a backdrop of global instability, Dai underscored the UN’s critical responsibility in maintaining international peace and security. “The greater the challenges we face, the more imperative it becomes to safeguard the authority and central role of the United Nations in global affairs,” he stated.
He reaffirmed China’s dedication to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter—including sovereign equality, non-interference in domestic affairs, peaceful dispute resolution, and the prohibition of force in international relations—as the foundational norms governing state-to-state interactions and the bedrock of global stability. China, he noted, remains vigilant against any resurgence of unilateralism, hegemony, or militarism, and will defend the post-World War II international order and justice.
Prioritizing Development for the Global South
On sustainable development, Dai stressed the need for balanced progress across the UN’s three pillars: peace and security, development, and human rights. For developing nations, he asserted, “development remains the master key to solving all problems,” and must occupy the highest priority on the international agenda. China pledged to amplify support for these countries through enhanced North-South and South-South cooperation, offering its resources and expertise to help achieve global development goals.
Reforming Global Governance
Addressing the complexities of modern challenges, Dai called for a more efficient and equitable UN system, endorsing the Secretary-General’s reform initiatives ahead of the organization’s 80th anniversary. China, he said, will actively participate in this process, contributing solutions to strengthen multilateralism and steer global governance toward greater fairness.
“China stands as both a steadfast defender of multilateralism and an active contributor to the UN’s mission,” Dai concluded. “We are ready to work with the international community to tackle shared challenges and forge a better future for all.”
