The World Customs Organization (WCO) hosted the 2nd Global Cross-Border E-Commerce Conference, bringing together global experts to discuss key issues such as optimizing regulatory frameworks, improving trade efficiency, and ensuring security and compliance. The conference emphasized data-driven risk management, simplified customs clearance procedures, consumer rights protection, and capacity building and cooperation. The rapid expansion of cross-border e-commerce is fundamentally transforming global trade patterns, presenting both unprecedented opportunities and complex challenges for customs authorities and businesses worldwide. Addressing these developments, the World Customs Organization (WCO) convened its second Global Cross-Border E-Commerce Conference from June 28-29, 2021.

The virtual summit brought together over 800 experts representing customs administrations, international organizations, regional bodies, trade associations, private sector entities, development partners, and academic institutions. Supported by the Japan Customs Cooperation Fund, the event served as both an information-sharing platform and strategic workshop for collaborative solutions.

Key Focus Areas

Participants engaged in intensive discussions on optimizing regulatory frameworks to enhance trade efficiency while ensuring security and compliance. Four critical domains emerged as priorities:
