The foundational rules governing international trade are undergoing significant changes that will impact cross-border logistics, customs clearance, and even personal travel items. These developments stem from ongoing revisions to the Revised Kyoto Convention (RKC), a crucial international agreement administered by the World Customs Organization (WCO).
From May 30 to June 3, 2022, the 29th meeting of the Revised Kyoto Convention Management Committee (RKC/MC) convened in a hybrid format at WCO headquarters in Brussels. Approximately 100 representatives from 80 contracting parties participated, along with 10 observers from international organizations, academia, and stakeholder groups.
In his opening remarks, Pranab Kumar Das, Director of Compliance and Facilitation, acknowledged participants' collaborative efforts and emphasized the meeting's historic nature. For the first time, discussions would address Potential Draft Texts (PDTs) under the fourth step of the "four-step framework," marking a pivotal stage in the convention's revision process.
