The renowned "King of Fruits" has made a groundbreaking appearance in China's e-commerce landscape during this year's "Double 12" shopping festival. For the first time, fresh tree-ripened Musang King durians from Malaysia were successfully imported through the cross-border e-commerce bonded import model via Tmall Global, with the inaugural orders shipped from Changsha Huanghua Comprehensive Bonded Zone.
Premium Quality Through Innovative Import Model
On December 12, the annual shopping extravaganza saw Huanghua Bonded Zone experience a significant surge in activity. The Malaysian Musang King durians, available through Tmall Global's "Xibei Overseas Flagship Store," differed from conventional imported fresh fruits by utilizing the cross-border e-commerce bonded import model. This innovative approach ensures that after payment, products are directly shipped from bonded warehouses to consumers, with purchase verifications available through customs authorities' official websites, guaranteeing authentic imported goods.
Unlike traditional liquid nitrogen-frozen durians, these premium fruits were freshly harvested on December 9 from Raub District in Pahang, Malaysia. The entire supply chain process—from harvesting to international transportation, customs clearance, and final delivery—was completed within 5-7 days, preserving optimal ripeness, nutritional value, and flavor without artificial ripening.
Logistical Excellence Behind the Scenes
ZTO Airlines managed the comprehensive logistics operation, including international air transport, customs clearance, bonded warehouse operations, and domestic delivery. The company optimized each step of the complex fresh produce supply chain, from overseas collection and documentation to specialized cold storage handling and packaging, ensuring product freshness throughout the journey.
Customs authorities at Huanghua Airport established dedicated "green channels" and service windows for the imported fruits, providing tailored guidance from declaration to inspection and final release. This coordinated effort has laid a solid foundation for scaling cross-border e-commerce imports of perishable goods.
Future Expansion Plans
The successful durian import marks the beginning of broader category expansion. Plans are underway to introduce additional premium fruits like cherries and guavas, along with seafood products including lobsters and shellfish through the cross-border e-commerce bonded import model. Consumers can currently purchase these imported durians through Taobao or Tmall platforms, with deliveries expected within 2-3 days.
