The days of towering stacks of paper documents, cumbersome approval processes, and wasted hours during cargo pickup at ports are coming to an end. Starting July 1, 2019, Shanghai Port has completely discontinued the issuance of paper delivery orders, officially transitioning to an electronic system. This move aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and minimize paper waste, aligning with green initiatives.
Key Provisions of the Electronic Delivery Order System
According to the Shanghai Port Authority's announcement, the core changes include:
- Discontinuation of paper delivery orders: No physical documents will be issued for export cargo pickups.
- Full implementation of electronic delivery orders: Cargo owners and freight forwarders must process pickups through a digital platform.
- Closure of paper-based reservation channels: Online appointment systems for paper delivery orders will no longer be available.
- Elimination of anonymous reservations: Only registered users will have access to the electronic delivery order system.
Guidelines and Preparations
Clients who have already activated electronic delivery order services should familiarize themselves with the new system. Those who have not yet registered must complete the following steps:
- Download the registration form: Obtain the "Import Electronic Delivery Order Registration Document" from the relevant shipping agency's website.
- Prepare required documents: Bring a copy of the company's business license.
- Complete registration: Visit the shipping agency to finalize registration and gain access to the electronic system.
This transition marks a significant step in Shanghai Port's efforts to improve service quality and embrace digital transformation. Cargo owners and logistics providers are encouraged to comply with the new requirements to ensure smooth operations.
