After years of pandemic-related travel restrictions, Malaysia Airlines will recommence direct flights between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) and Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) starting March 1, 2023. The announcement was made by Malaysia's Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong.
Flight Details and Schedule
The inaugural flight, operating under flight number MH370, will mark the restoration of this important Southeast Asian route. The approximately 5.5-hour direct flight eliminates the need for layovers, significantly reducing travel time between the two cities.
Malaysia Airlines will initially operate three weekly round-trip flights with the following schedule:
- Kuala Lumpur to Guangzhou: Departing Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 4:30 PM local time
- Guangzhou to Kuala Lumpur: Departing Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:00 AM local time
Travel Requirements
Passengers are reminded that China's current entry regulations require a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within 48 hours of departure. Airlines strongly advise travelers to verify all entry requirements prior to their journey to ensure smooth border clearance.
Expanding Air Connectivity
Additional Malaysian carriers including AirAsia and Malindo Air are reportedly preparing to restore their China routes in the coming months. This expansion is expected to further strengthen air connectivity between Malaysia and China, offering travelers more options for post-pandemic travel.
Industry analysts view the resumption of this route as a significant step in rebuilding international travel networks following prolonged pandemic disruptions. Travelers are advised to stay informed about evolving travel regulations in both countries when planning their trips.
